When Your Student’s High School IEP Requires Instruction Beyond Four Years: What You Need To Know

Parents and students with disabilities face a host of options, along with potential pitfalls, as the student approaches the end of a typical student’s high school career. Issues to be considered include whether and how to ensure that students continuing after “12th grade” are able to fully participate in graduation and other senior year activities without jeopardizing continuing services; how and when decisions about graduation should be made; creative options for students continuing in special education after “12th grade”; securing appropriate and adequate community-based instruction; availability of and access to college-based programs and experiences, and a host of others. This workshop will explore these issues in depth and will provide attendees with a roadmap to lead students successfully from school to post-school life.
