What Do I Need to Know About: Domestic Violence Laws and the Disability Community-Part 2

Thursday, January 20, 2022
2:00 pm3:00 pm

This webinar is Part 2 of a two part series on Domestic Violence Laws. Attorney Ehsan Chowdhry will elaborate on the information related in the October 21, 2021 webinar where Mr. Chowdhry gave an general overview of the topic. The October webinar can be viewed at www.cjapnj.org.
Many people with IDD live in the community in New Jersey, either with family, with roommates or in other congregate living settings. When 911 is called, domestic violence laws and their protections apply. It is important for service providers, families and people with disabilities to be aware of and understand how these laws affect them, including restraining orders as well as criminal charges that may be brought. Attorney Ehsan Chowdhry is an expert in the field, both as a former prosecutor and now as a private defense attorney, and he will provide a valuable overview of the domestic violence system, what to know about how the system works and what families, support provider agencies and people with disabilities should be prepared for.
