X-WR-CALDESC:Research shows heavy utilization of pharmacology in the treatm
 ent of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)\
 , however\, the service community recognizes three major approaches to the
 rapeutic intervention: pharmacology\, behavioral intervention\, and psycho
 therapy. While psychotherapy is acknowledged as a treatment intervention\,
  it is implemented much less often than the use of medication or behaviora
 l intervention. This training will review some of the barriers that have h
 indered more frequent and effective use of psychotherapy for those with ID
 D. Strategies to address these barriers also will be discussed. These stra
 tegies will introduce participants to a variety of approaches that include
  providing special supports\, adapting therapeutic methodology to more eff
 ectively meet the needs of individuals\, and better integrating these thre
 e approaches.
